Brownstone on Marlborough Street Boston, MA
Historic Renovation

Our clients purchased this quintessential Back Bay building as a gutted shell with only a few artifacts of the original home remaining. These unique architectural details informed the interior design yet we remained focused on updating the house to function for a modern family. The lower level was excavated to accommodate an au-pair suite and the primary kitchen-family room space, with direct access to the rear parking area and a charming walled garden.

The main level remained mostly unchanged from the original program, with the exception of the added elevator shaft. We converted what was the primary kitchen into a service kitchen, connecting it with a dumbwaiter to the main kitchen below.

A mahogany paneled library and home office as well five bedrooms and bathrooms complete the remaining two floors of the house.

City and river views were added with a copper and glass rooftop atrium providing access to front and rear facing Ipe Mahogany terraces.
