Shiplap Ceilings That Standout

October 31, 2024

When it comes to designing a home, the details make all the difference. One particular feature that can make a space stand out is the addition of wood plank ceilings, also referred to as Shiplap, beadboard, nickel gap, or v-groove. These ceiling applications can add visual texture and create a more dramatic space. The horizontal lines create depth, drawing the eye upward and making a room feel more expansive. From a design standpoint, wood plank ceilings provide endless possibilities for creativity and personalization.

Here are some of our favorite spaces with plank ceilings:

Freedom Lakehouse

While white plank ceilings are a popular choice for their clean look, natural wood’s rich tones and textures create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Natural wood was the perfect addition to this lakehouse project, creating a comfortable and inviting space on the waterfront. The tone of the planks matches the post and beam structure throughout the rest of the first-floor space.

Plank ceilings not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of a room but also offer practical benefits. They are an excellent choice for rooms with vaulted or cathedral ceilings. Wood is a natural insulator, helping regulate temperature and ensuring a more comfortable environment. Our project on Longfellow is a perfect example of this, where the plank ceiling incorporated into the dining area adds both style and warmth to the space.

Residence on Melrose

The clean lines of a nickel gap ceiling, painted in semi-gloss to match the off-white, matte walls, work well with modern and minimalist designs, creating a stunning focal point without overwhelming the space. Adding wood paneling to the ceiling at our Residence on Melrose project created the perfect balance of texture, adding depth without cluttering the visual field.
