Around Town: Newton, MA Architecture Projects by Slocum Hall Design Group
September 22, 2021At Slocum Hall Design Group, we work in many towns around the Metro West of Boston and beyond. Newton, located about seven miles west of downtown Boston is one of our most beloved locations and is home to quite a few of our projects.
The City of Newton itself is comprised of thirteen villages, Auburndale, Chestnut Hill, Newton Centre, Newton Corner, Newton Highlands, Newton Lower Falls, Newton Upper Falls, Newtonville, Nonantum, Oak Hill, Thompsonville, Waban, and West Newton. Its proximity to Boston makes Newton an ideal location for people commuting into the city for work. Additionally, their quiet and safe neighborhoods and good schools make Newton an extremely desirable community in which to love and raise a family.
We always look forward to tackling new projects in this fine city. Below are some of the favorites we completed.
Residence on Bellevue
Always at the top of our list, this Newton Neo-Classical Revival is the proud recipient of the Builders & Remodelers Association of Greater Boston 2018 PRISM Award for Best Historical Renovation, a Newton Preservation Award, and a 2020 Masters in Design Award Presented by Qualified Remodeler magazine. The goal of this once-in-a-lifetime project was to thoughtfully preserve the home’s historical merits and rich character while providing its owners modern functionality and convenience.
Residence In Waban
One of our recently completed projects, this stunning English Manor style home, perched prominently on a hill in the Waban section of Newton, is currently featured in New England Home Magazine. The interior was gutted, and the floor plan reconfigured, creating a large, modern kitchen for entertaining and a multi-room owner’s suite. We added a new elevator and an attached garage, allowing our clients to remain in their home indefinitely without concern for the challenges of walking up and downstairs as they age.
Newtonville Kitchen Remodel
Another just-completed project, this Newtonville kitchen, results from a growing family’s need for more space. The first floor of this house underwent a previous renovation that was impractically designed with tight spaces. We doubled the kitchen square footage by adding to the existing footprint, allowing for an open floor plan, ample entertaining space, and top-of-the-line appliances that all take advantage of breathtaking views.
