The Beauty of the Front Porch

July 24, 2023

A home’s front porch serves many functions – protection from the weather, enhanced security, curb appeal – but a beautiful front porch, one that is meticulously designed to suit the home’s landscape, is something entirely different. A beautiful front porch sets the stage for entry into your home; a warm welcome that both invites you inside and gives you access to what is happening outside. If you live where it’s quiet and secluded, it’s a space to take in your natural surroundings. If you’re in an urban area or a busy neighborhood, it’s the perfect setting to watch cars go by or greet your neighbors and their furry friends.

To help spark inspiration, here are some of our favorite, noteworthy front porches that we’ve designed in recent years.

Residence on Highland

This newly renovated home in West Newton Hill was transformed from a dated and dilapidated one-story Dutch Colonial into our client’s two-story dream home. The front porch is a natural extension of the home and acts as the welcoming entryway into the new open and modern design.

Residence on Longfellow

Located in Wellesley, this stately Victorian underwent an extensive gut renovation and reconfiguration with the intention of creating an open, casual, and modern interior. The massive wrap-around front porch lends itself to the new addition off the back of the home, while the double doors provide a charming and welcoming entrance.

Modern Farmhouse on Beaver

Modern farmhouse architecture/farmhouse-style architecture

This newly constructed home in Weston was designed with large, inviting spaces perfect for family life or entertaining guests. The wrap-around front porch helps bring a more human scale to the large structure, adding to the simple lines of the farmhouse aesthetic and complementing the standing-seam metal-roof awnings.
