The Ultimate Spa Escape

August 26, 2022

If you were to imagine the perfect spa experience what features would be most important to you? A spacious room clad in natural wood and stone? A large hot tub in which to luxuriate on your own or entertain family and friends? An inviting fireplace and a backdrop of four-season beauty? This is exactly the spa we designed for our clients in Weston. Winner of the silver award from the 7th Annual Kitchen & Bath Design Award competition in the Specialty Space category, this one-of-a-kind spa room is part of our Modern Prairie project.

The clients wanted a family-friendly entertaining and spa area that could accommodate an in-ground oversized hot tub and take advantage of the property’s breathtaking views. A perfect marriage of the indoors and outdoors, it feels like an escape from the rest of the home (the outside world, really), yet the room is beautifully integrated with the overall design aesthetic. Creating a fully separate thermal environment to keep the humidity and the smell of chlorine from infiltrating the home was addressed with a complex HVAC system.

This project was a collaborative effort from the very start with key design decisions made by Briar Design, Concept Building and the homeowners. The entire space is clad in veneer stone with key architectural details added such as the wood trellis ceiling and the relationship of the space to land. The doors on the back side of the room are fully retractable, making it perfect for outdoor living in the warm weather and indoor living when it’s cold. The room boasts top-of-the-line technology that allows the homeowner to control everything from a remote – making it easy to monitor the kids. The built-in bar in the corner of the room is perfect for entertaining guests and features Crown Point Cabinetry and quartz countertops. A double-sided stone-clad fireplace connects the indoors to the outdoors, perfectly encapsulating the spa experience and completing the design.
