Our Favorite Grand Entrances
March 27, 2023There’s nothing quite like a beautiful grand entryway. A grand entrance invites you into a home – it’s the first step guests take into your space and sets the tone for what they can expect throughout. Is it welcoming? Open? Full of natural light? At Slocum Hall, we love creating entrances that wow! Below are some of our favorites.
Residence In Waban
This English manor-style century-old home in Newton, Massachusetts, was updated and enlarged to accommodate empty nesters. Although the layout for the grand entrance did not change, it was important to update and modernize it without compromising the home’s original architecture. A new steel and glass double door was added to visually connect the once-dark vestibule with the rest of the foyer. The trim, baseboards, and crown molding were updated and refinished to transform the space into something light-filled and inviting.
Weston Modern Prairie
This Prairie-style new construction has a main corridor axis upon entry that runs from the primary bedroom at one end, through the dramatic entry foyer, to the opposite side of the house, where the mudroom is located with access to the three-car garage. This design allowed us to create something extraordinary in the entranceway – a stone-and-copper-clad fireplace that bisects the foyer and the Great Room. The result is an entryway that is dramatic, yet warm, a real “wow” moment for anyone entering this extraordinary home.
Residence on West Newton Hill
Because this house in West Newton Hill needed a total transformation, it allowed us to reconfigure the space, opening up the floor plan and updating the entire first floor of the home. The front entryway was designed to accommodate double doors that lead into the main corridor, with rooms located on either side. This space is now homey and welcoming, combining warm wood details with contemporary styling.
