When Home Is Everything, You Build Everything At Home
November 23, 2020It’s rare when you get to work on a project that incorporates all of a client’s favorite hobbies into a separate, newly constructed space on their property. As COVID shifts our lives, an at-home life emerges and a place for family activities has never been more important.
We completed this incredibly unique two-structure project, which includes a Guest House/Lodge Room and a Sports Barn, for our client’s four athletic sons.
The exterior of the sports barn was intentionally designed to resemble a barn, while also maintaining the architectural integrity of the neighborhood and the property. The main floor houses a full-sized basketball court. The lower level has a turf space, perfect for pitching and batting practice, a locker room, and two bathrooms.
The guest house is built with a steel-framed superstructure, which allowed us to create a vast, uninterrupted space for entertaining. Designed as an homage to their favorite Vermont hotel, this “Lodge Room” boasts a full bar, pool table, and multiple seating areas. The structure also holds a garage that accommodates four cars with lifts.
We referenced the main house for both structures’ exterior design, adding details to elevate the appearance, like the arched window and barn-inspired touches to augment the aesthetic.
