Residence in Brookline Brookline
Home Renovation
This family of five had been searching for their forever home for years while they outgrew their 1400 square foot home in Jamaica Plain. They fell in love with a stately, three-story, 1900 colonial on a tree-lined street in Brookline. Though the home had been updated in 2008, the spaces didn’t offer the function their active family needed. They are avid entertainers and spend a large amount of time cooking. They also have a massive book collection and everyone in the family plays musical instruments. While they had gotten used to clutter in their smaller home, it was time to finally have a space to put everything away.
The first floor of the home underwent a complete overhaul to accommodate their lifestyle, hobbies, and storage needs. The kitchen was reconfigured and opened to the dining room, creating an open entertaining space. Other updates included: a new mudroom adjacent to the Kitchen; floor to ceiling shelving was added to the living room to create a library for their book collection; and the Family Room was converted into a Music Room and Jam Space.
On the Third Floor we creatively addressed their need for accessing their attic space by designing a new staircase, which also accommodates a reading nook and additional book storage.
