Gambrel on Beaver Weston, MA
We were hired to design this New Construction, Shingle Style Gambrel for a very complicated lot. Bordered by wetlands on two sides and a steep hill on another, our buildable zone was a kidney bean shaped area. With a strict directive to design a residence with 6000 square feet above grade, we were faced with the challenge of maximizing every possible inch of the usable lot. As the aerial view illustrates, the house took on a unique shape to accommodate the owners request for the desired square footage.
The interior program consists of a dramatic entry and stair hall with two-and-a-half story soaring ceiling. The second floor bedroom hall overlooks the entry hall and is also accessed by a back stair from the Kitchen/Family Room. Generously proportioned rooms on the Main Floor have a direct connection to the surrounding property with French Doors and oversized windows. The second floor consists of five bedroom suites, including a Master Suite with a fireplace and sundeck overlooking the property and abutting wetlands. The expansive Basement space is naturally lit by stone-faced window wells and features a media room, gym and recreation room.
